Graphic Design Projects

I’ve been dabbling in some independent projects to brush up on basic design principles and some other fun work based on the random tutorials I’ve stumbled upon across the we

I have recently been introduced to ArtRage 5 by Ambient Design. I was initially using the ANDROID VERSION of this on my tablet was so enamored that I went ahead and invested in the whole program. I will be doing further review of this product, mainly ArtRage5 as soon as I’ve figured it all out better. It can be overwhelming. but it is incredibly responsive and I look forward to figuring this out a little better.

Honestly, I also, through some series of terrible events, I can attest first hand that the people at Ambient Design from the developers to their service managers are truly amazing people. Even though it is a big jump in the features from an app to the desktop version, I will do my best to understand all of the features of this because I was super impressed by all of my experience with them.

I also use Krita for my graphic designing needs. It is a very extensive and, to be honest, overwhelming platform but there are several tutorials available throughout the web. A great place to start is on Krita’s Website where you can download custom brush strokes and other user made addons and plugins that are available. For the particularly savvy graphic designer, you can customize your own brush strokes as well. Krita is a professional FREE and open source painting program. It is made by artists that want to see affordable art tools for everyone. It’s particularly appealing to those who want to design

  • content art
  • texture and matte painting
  • illustrations and comics creation

I am very keen to learn to use this better and a lot of the shortcuts and commands are similar, if not the same, to Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator, but without the price tag or pressure to subscribe to their services. There are many tools available as well and tutorials available here from free to paid.

I am using  the New Huion 1060 Plus graphics drawing tablet. Its predecessor had an older response capture chip and an antiquated connectivity port. I believe this is the only main difference. It still has 12 express keys along with 16 soft keys for customized functionality. I think I truly only use 2 or 3 consistently — the rest is muscle memory on the keyboard from my Photoshop days. There are also 2 buttons on the stylus and a TF card slot, expandable up to 64GB fro, the 8GB provided. It’s pretty convenient for on-the-go artists and it reads like a flash drive on any PC or Mac so you can bring unfinished projects or even the installation drivers for the tablet with you wherever you go. The stylus does require charging, however, but the lithium ion powering it now is good for up to 800 hours, has 2048 levels of pressure sensitivity, and a power saving mode for when the tablet or pen isn’t used for 10 minutes.

Yes, it is a wired tablet with a wireless pen (which can be used wired if need be) but it boasts a 10 x 6.25″ active area. It’s super for perspective point line work or extravagant brush strokes. — and, if I may be honest, Wacom tablets are just far too pricey and this hits the sweet spot for a sub fifty price point.

You can also customize the work area to be smaller to give yourself some margin room, but it’s totally unnecessary for my drawing style. I will update these as I sift my way through some practicing exercises and hand-drawn pieces.

Well, I returned that tablet because I was unhappy with their service. The tablet also began to show some worrisome signs of deterioration within the first month, luckily Amazon’s policy in returns is accommodating! So, now I am using a Wacom CTH-680. I am trying to save money for a replacement Intuos Pro, larger size, but funds are low and I am very happy with this so far. It is much smaller in terms of working area, but I work with what I can and Wacom is far more reliable.
