The Freedom of Dreams

THE FREEDOM OF DREAMS

I look up towards my dream
Feeling what I would feel
And from the cloud seeps through a beam
of which was once a seal

The cloud was not one of the good
leaving only what was bad
if I could, would, to as I should,
the dream is what I’d have

But how do I this dream achieve
if clouds blind every thought?
Reality is what I’d leave
for everything I’ve sought

I’ve often danced in dreams since birth
the steps are what I’ll be
When dreams and I fulfill our worth
by that I shall be free

November 21st 2000.

I wrote this in high school in the cafeteria in between classes while my English teacher was sitting across form me marking papers. I had just got into writing poetry, was on a high from watching Dead Poet’s Society, and found everything to be poetic. So this teacher challenged me to write something while they marked papers. This is what I came up with. #ChallengeAccepted

Candle Lit Candle (A Palindromic Sonnet)

CANDLE LIT CANDLE

Love of paths within journeys mistaking
Above from which Gods and Saints jeopardized
Wicked Candles — these are tempting and waking
Sadness blamed anger when that angel materialized

Tricked intersections whose roads are forsaken
Madness laments — Heaven! Reign chaos and fire!
Dire are thoughts provoked when dreams awaken
Awaken dreams when provoked thoughts are dire

Fire and chaos reign — Heaven laments madness!
Forsaken are roads whose intersections tricked
Materialized angel that, when anger blamed sadness,
Waking and tempting are these candles wicked

Jeopardized saints and gods which from above
Mistaking journeys within paths of love

Written during a TESL session, out of sheer boredom, and experimenting retrograde palindromic poetry. I think the iambic pentameter is off, so feel free to beta if you have any suggestions.

Sonnet of Rest

SONNET OF REST

I lay in awe of things I’ve gained
And weep in shame of all I lack
The things I’ve done, the me I’ve maimed
Engulfed in voids of literary black.

The gravity of depths succumbed
Forbidden words I’ve yet to choke
Ideas of good things I’ve numbed
Regretting still the day I woke

Forlorn in pain and misery
All these things that make me, me
A paradoxical mystery;
Tempts the elusive discovery

Thinking thoughts I think are best,
The blissful calm of eternal rest.

This is something I wrote when I was in a major funk; in the end, I made sure to get the help I needed and to embrace those I love. CLICK THIS LINK FOR MORE INFO  and never hesitate to tell someone how you feel! Despite what others tell you, including yourself, let me be the one to assure you that you DO matter and you WILL overcome this. Or, transfer that negative energy into literary utterances or other forms of healthy art. Or get a cat. They are almost always in more terrible moods than you, haha!

The Passage of Time

THE PASSAGE OF TIME

In the era of regrets and realms of error
Remains solace in wisps of the hope remaining
Joy seemingly cackles alongside the mistakes
A positive force that the darkness negates

In the cloudy recesses of the mind that awes
Lies a grief-stricken truth that challenges the light
Restlessness awaits beyond the time we can grasp
Nightmares conquered are mere dreams

Suffocating throughout the vastness of this space
Enduring what circumstances tempt a fearful resolve
Refuge will be sought in the cloudless mind remade
Thirsty thoughts held captive while drowning in thirst

A singular spark of light will from these wisps escape
The delectable reveries of a hopeful, changed reality
And there in the emptiness of blind, callous hearts
The soul shall transcend beyond the passage of time

So I wrote this mainly because I bought a new pen and wanted to try writing with it, lol.
