Poetry

Niente Fortissimo

NIENTE FORTISSIMO

Deliberate, simple life. Strings.
A tempo beats, drowning tones in modest,
Closing in on echoing lines ne’er converging,
Vibratos falling away in sonorous waves,
Lamenting the binary of space and time,
As atoms sweetly in points collide.

Melodic Convictions. (sotto voce)

Bold, easily broken chords. Always.
Swiftly sounding in triumphant staccato,
Along heavy winds of melancholic legato,
Pleas in harmonic flight sustain its duet,
Reverberating softly beyond the voices;
A symphony of torment and sick.

September 7th 2008.

I wrote this on the morning of Spore for PC launch. I remember specifically writing it on the back of some of the dvd sleeves for the dummy boxes for our marketing gondola. I have no idea why this came to me… must have been a rough morning? And at the time, the store I was running was literally down the street from me, so I can’t imagine what had happened from a 10 minute walk, lol. But it seems to roll off the tip of the tongue quite pleasantly, despite the final line of torment and sick. I’d edit it, but then I’d know that it wasn’t the original… I’ve had this published previously on other online poetry blogs, and it had ranked #1 for about 2 years until the site was taken over by some other company. It’s probably one of my favorites.

The Freedom of Dreams

THE FREEDOM OF DREAMS

I look up towards my dream
Feeling what I would feel
And from the cloud seeps through a beam
of which was once a seal

The cloud was not one of the good
leaving only what was bad
if I could, would, to as I should,
the dream is what I’d have

But how do I this dream achieve
if clouds blind every thought?
Reality is what I’d leave
for everything I’ve sought

I’ve often danced in dreams since birth
the steps are what I’ll be
When dreams and I fulfill our worth
by that I shall be free

I wrote this in high school in the cafeteria in between classes while my English teacher was sitting across form me marking papers. I had just got into writing poetry, was on a high from watching Dead Poet’s Society, and found everything to be poetic. So this teacher challenged me to write something while they marked papers. This is what I came up with. #ChallengeAccepted

Candle Lit Candle (A Palindromic Sonnet)

CANDLE LIT CANDLE

Love of paths within journeys mistaking
Above from which Gods and Saints jeopardized
Wicked Candles — these are tempting and waking
Sadness blamed anger when that angel materialized

Tricked intersections whose roads are forsaken
Madness laments — Heaven! Reign chaos and fire!
Dire are thoughts provoked when dreams awaken
Awaken dreams when provoked thoughts are dire

Fire and chaos reign — Heaven laments madness!
Forsaken are roads whose intersections tricked
Materialized angel that, when anger blamed sadness,
Waking and tempting are these candles wicked

Jeopardized saints and gods which from above
Mistaking journeys within paths of love

Written during a TESL session, out of sheer boredom, and experimenting retrograde palindromic poetry. I think the iambic pentameter is off, so feel free to beta if you have any suggestions.
